The Best Robot Hoover
The best robot hoover can mop and vacuum without needing your attention, and it will leave your floors clean. Its surprisingly affordable price and high-end features (such as dirt detection) are great features.
Make sure you regularly inspect your robot's brushes for hair that is tangled and large particles and wash them if needed. Some models can also self-empty the dust bin on board and then deposit it in an additional bin located at the base. This can reduce the amount of fine dust that gets released into the air.
1. Roomba Q5 pro
The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive cousin, the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic vacuums we've tested. They have top-of-the-line motors that can pull up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. Similar to other iRobots that are premium (including the most powerful model) they utilize smart mapping to produce precise floorplans that avoid obstacles like cords and furniture leg. The robots also have Carpet Boost, a feature that boosts its power when it detects dirt on the carpet.
Both the Q5 as well as the Q7 Max Series get very high scores on our tests on floors that are bare, and they're particularly adept in cleaning pet hair. However, they do have a few flaws however, which prevent them from being our first option. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is its navigation system does not have AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's therefore prone to getting stuck on shoes and socks and could not navigate rooms with lots of people well in our tests. It doesn't also have a camera that can see around corners.
It's still a good deal particularly if your home or office has a lot of bare floors and you're looking to save some money. Plus, it's very quiet and can be used while you're at work or going to school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming feature that's offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes that don't stick very well and cannot handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle that can be emptied by itself. If you need to clean the mopping pad, it can be replaced with a wet one in just a few seconds.
2. iRobot Roomba
The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact elegant vacuum cleaner that can also mop floors. Its intelligent cleaning maps and quick navigation make it easy to clean, and effective in tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also features a powerful suction and an automatic bin for emptying. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, but it isn't as efficient as some of its competitors in deep cleaning.
This high-performance vacuum and mop utilizes sensors that help it avoid obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the structure of your home over time to offer better cleaning. The app lets you set up zones and modify the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average when compared to similar models.
You can tell the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and to extend them when in a carpeted room to prevent cross-contamination. Its flex arm is great for getting under low-lying furniture and along baseboards. It's not as efficient on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.
During testing, X30 Ultra was the quickest robot vacuum/mop that could sweep the entire house and had 66 percent of its battery remaining. It did a good cleaning job on different floors and rooms with different flooring types including some area carpets. Its obstacle detection was excellent and it stayed clear of fake dog turds and socks, shoes and bundles cables.
It's a little more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but has superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empties into the base. It also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after it vacuums this feature, which we've not seen on other robotic vacuum/mop combos.
3. Roomba X40 from iRobot
With an elegant circular design that appears like a regular Roomba rather than the compact models This robot vacuum and mop combo is one of the most appealing looking in our tests. iRobot’s latest flagship model is also its smartest. It comes with advanced features, like enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).
It's the only robotic mop or vacuum to score a perfect 10 in our tests thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors, including cameras, a structured light system, and multiple lasers. auto vacuum cleaner is also the only robot we tested that can fully self-refill and empty its base station, and it boasts industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.
As with other iRobot models as well, the X40 is user-friendly, offering an intuitive mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant. The only issue is that it's still quite loud that could be an issue if you use it in the morning before work or in the evening as you try to sleep.
It's also quite expensive but not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally powerful and more attractive. If you're willing with a bit more noise and some extra cost this is a capable two-in-one that should please almost everyone.
4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with a lot of advanced features that will let you get rid of your chores. Like Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that takes charge of both vacuuming and mopping, with a multi-function dock that automatically empties the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank, washes and dries its mop pads.
The smart robot makes use of a combination of LIDAR and structured light to create floor plans and spot obstacles, navigating more intelligently than its more expensive rivals. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards but this was not 100% foolproof during our tests and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.
The vacuum cleaner comes with an maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to accomplish the task. It also comes with "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the amount of time the vacuum works and also adjusts the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house depending on how dirty they are.
For bigger homes, it's worth opting for models that has zone or spot cleaning modes that let you tell the robot to clean one specific area of your home by using the app or via voice commands. If you have a lot of furniture, a stair-mode is also useful. Finally auto vacuum cleaner and resume function that lets your robot vacuum continue where it left off is great for busy families.
iRobot RX3
The RX3 is a more efficient cleaner than you'd think from its price. It's a pro at cleaning, removing 55% of the debris we found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with a single pad that uses a reciprocating motion that does a better job cleaning than the other mop cleaners for robots we've examined. It's self-sufficient too, with a full-featured application and a self-emptying, washable base.
The well-designed iRobot application guides you through an initial mapping exercise that collects information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you set on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules or to create a spot-clean. It can also be used to it to rank your most filthy areas for greater efficiency. The app also provides access to a variety of features like seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.
It is also able to reach corners and under furniture more easily because its shape is more rectangular. It also has a strong suction of 8,000 Pascal suction and combs with intelligent technology for pet hair. You can also create a spot-cleaner which will thoroughly clean a specific area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and more affordable alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras look like cute eyes. It does a great job vacuuming, but it's more likely to get caught on low thresholds. It also has a higher noise than other top robot vacuums we've test. It also has a less intuitive app and a small base station that isn't able to double as a bin for emptying.
